Scientific Objectives

  • Increase of the horizontal resolution of the model grid from 1.5km (as is now in the existing Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting System) to 500m or even better.
  • Increase of the model domain size to the entire Eastern Levantine basin, reducing the number of open boundaries.
  • Increase in the level of detail of the simulated sea currents and of other parameters.
  • Enhancement of the interoperability of the Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting System with other sub-systems nested within.
  • Improvement of the accuracy of the daily runs of the Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting System by allowing assimilation of observed data, and,
  • Near real-time specialized predictions for end-user applications.
