Use of Medslik

MEDSLIK has been used operationally for real oil spill accidents and for preparedness in contingency planning within the framework of pilot projects with REMPEC-Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea and EMSA-European Maritime Safety Agency, as well as in projects supported by the European Civil Protection Agency via the Cyprus National agency. MEDSLIK is used by the Cyprus National Contingency Plan and has been used also in the framework of the sub-regional contingency plan in the Eastern Mediterranean Levantine Basin.

Moreover, MEDSLIK oil spill model has been used in the framework of dedicated EU-European Union funded projects(as for example the MERSEA-Strand1, MERSEA-IP, MyOcean, MyOcean-2, MyOcean-FO) promoting the development of the EU Copernicus marine service, former known as the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security-GMES.

MEDSLIK oil spill model has also been implemented in many other EU funded projects regarding oil spill predictions using the operational ocean forecasts. For example ECOOP, NEREIDs and EMODNET Mediterranean Check Point. The most recent one is the EU funded MEDESS4MS project, aimed to establish a multi model oil spill prediction system for the entire Mediterranean Sea using the well established oil spill models in the region and the Copernicus marine service meteo-ocean forecasting data. MEDSLIK oil spill model is at the heart of the MEDESS4MS multi model oil spill prediction system.

MEDSLIK SaR

MEDSLIK SaR model has been used in the framework of dedicated EU-European Union funded projects(as for example the MERSEA-Strand1, MERSEA-IP, MyOcean, MyOcean-2, MyOcean-FO) promoting the development of the Copernicus marine service, former known as the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security-GMES.

Furthermore, MEDSLIK search and rescue model has been implemented in many other EU funded projects regarding the trajectory prediction of floating objects, for example during the ECOOP.
